Just had my daughter’s bed painted, it looks amazing. Rich and Alexa are so friendly and helpful. Brilliant service, great price. Will definitely use them again. Wish I had room for some of their pieces. Thanks very much. — Melanie
TransFunk Furniture was born through a desire to transform tired, unloved furniture into beautiful, fun and funky pieces which will bring as much joy to its new owner as we have had in creating it.
We are always on the hunt for new trends and ideas to ensure each piece of furniture is totally unique and exceptional. We are also open to ideas and desires of our customers and can source and finish almost any piece of furniture. In the modern day’s focus on recycling and re-using, we believe that we are doing our bit for the environment by saving what we can from land fill without compromising on the quality of finish we pride ourselves in. We mainly use water based acrylic products which is kinder to our and your health as well as the planet.
Our name, TransFunk Furniture is a combination of the words Transform and Funky which is exactly what we are about. We like to believe that our creations encourage our customers to be different and find their own unique style however “brave” they want to be with their furniture.
If it is just good quality second hand furniture you are looking for or if you want to tackle your own project, we have a large amount of stock to choose from and we now offer furniture painting workshops using Fusion Mineral Paint TM.
So if you are moving, redecorating, downsizing or just because you fancy a change, we are here for all furniture inspiration and solutions.
I am Rich (also known as Ox) and I do most of the sanding preparation, spray painting, drilling, filling, fixing, clamping and lifting in the workshop. Preparation is key to all our transformations and I take great pride in re-inventing or renovating something that would otherwise be discarded or committed to the upper atmosphere.
I started my working career in engineering before the hospitality & entertainments industry got the better of me for nearly a decade. Then IT took over my life and gave me a stable career path for nearly 20 years. I was working at senior managerial level in a FTSE top 10 corporation when I decided to join Lex in a complete career and life change. TransFunk Furniture has provided me with a new outlet for my engineering and creative interests. By the time a piece of furniture leaves the workshop it is often unrecognizable from the sad, unloved piece that entered. I just love the process of transformation which can be so satisfying, not only on our furniture, but also in life.
What do I enjoy most? Finding that little treasure for someone which they just can’t live without and helping them visualise the potential of that piece of furniture – the “Funky wow factor”!
I am Alexa (also referred to as Lex) and you will mostly find me in the shop sticking, stapling, stencilling, measuring, cutting, rubbing and dusting. I absolutely love seeing an old piece of furniture come to life again with a bit of imagination and some tender loving care! The possibilities of furniture transformation are endless and it is so much fun planning new projects with Rich and trying things most people won’t even think of.
Before the birth of TransFunk Furniture, I was a dental nurse with many creative hobbies including sewing, interior design and generally trying new things all the time. I am very privileged to literally “live the dream” of doing what I am passionate about for a living. But my job is not just about the fun I have. It is also about doing our little bit to help our environment by reusing rather than disposing and inspiring more people to think twice about replacing their furniture when a spruce up of their existing pieces can achieve a brand new look.
My favourite part of the job? The joy on a customer’s face when we deliver their bespoke customer request. That, my Funky friends, is real job satisfaction!!
